Health and Safety inspectors have just arrived in Felmingham where a lorry has brought down a powerline, resulting in a man being electrocuted and airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive said a specialist inspector and another Norfolk-based inspector would carry out an investigation at the scene.

UK Power Networks confirmed that it was alerted to a high-voltage overhead electricity line being brought down in Church Road by a vehicle in the area at around 2.10pm.

She added: “Power was isolated and an engineer was on site within 15 minutes.”

The incident caused a power cut to 841 properties in Felmingham, near North Walsham. Power to 642 properties was restored at 3.21pm.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “We were called to a report of a man who had been electrocuted and following treatment and stabilisation by land and air ambulance crews, he was airlifted to Broomfield Hospital in Essex with serious injuries.

“A second patient, a man, has also been taken by land ambulance to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital as a precautionary measure with non-life threatening injuries.”

An ambulance crew, rapid response car, duty officer, East Anglian Air Ambulance and firefighters from North Walsham were all at the scene.

The UK Powernetworks spokesman said engineers were working as quickly and as safely as possible to restore power to the remaining properties.
