Householders in parts of Norwich were without water last night and half a dozen properties were flooded as a result of a burst water main.

Firefighters from Earlham Fire Station were called out yesterday as a result of the flooding in Old Palace Road, off Dereham Road, which entered some ground floor flats.

The incident had resulted in 70 Anglian Water customers losing their water supplies.

A spokesman from Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said the crew was called at 3.15pm and used a light portable pump to remove water from six affected properties and spent more than an hour at the scene.

A spokesman for Anglian Water said the incident related to a burst water main in Portway Place.

'Unfortunately four properties were flooded internally. Our operational team and the loss adjusters have contacted the customers, landlord and tenants at the affected properties. The wheels are in motion to sort out what's required to get things back to normal.'

'A team have been on site today and will continue to be over the coming days to clean up and fix the road and pavement. The road will remain closed until this work is complete.'
