The driver of a car which crashed into a tree at the weekend is still receiving treatment at hospital.

Norfolk police said the accident in Ashill, near Watton, happened in thick fog and possibly frosty conditions just after 1am on Saturday (November 24).

The vehicle involved was a blue Ford Mondeo travelling along Low Common Road.

A Norfolk police spokesman said today (November 26) the 39-year-old driver, who was released by firefighters, is still at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH). He suffered serious leg injuries.

There were two men who were passengers at the time of the collision, one of whom is 18. One of the passengers was also released from the car by Watton and Swaffham firefighters.

One passenger suffered broken bones, chest and abdominal injuries and the other suffered minor injuries.

Both were taken to the NNUH but have since been released, according to a police spokesman.

Hethersett GP Tony Press, from the Norfolk Accident Rescue Service, who was called to help the paramedics, said he performed critical care at the roadside before travelling to the NNUH with the patients.

The East of England Ambulance Service sent three ambulances and a response car.

Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson said it was a “very delicate” incident to deal with.

Dr Press said: “This was a very challenging incident, in freezing conditions. All the emergency services did a superb job in very difficult circumstances to ensure the best possible result for the patient.”

The police spokesman said the road was closed for four and a half hours after the accident as the rescue services dealt with the emergency.

Any witnesses are being asked to contact PC Paul White at Swaffham Roads Policing by calling 101.
