An unconscious man was found on Great Yarmouth beach this morning, coastguard officers have said.

The coastguard control centre in Humberside was called at around 7am today (Friday) with a report of a man who was on the sand by the prom in line with the Majestic amusement arcade, on the Golden Mile.

An officer said the tide was going out and there was no need for coastguard action, but police had notified them due to the location of the man.

He added police had seen the man on CCTV, and police were dealing with the incident.

An ambulance service spokesman said paramedics attended after reports of an unconscious man in his 20s lying on the beach.

He was taken to the James Paget University Hospital for treatment, and his condition is not thought to be serious.
