Two people killed and another two seriously injured in crash on A142 at Mepal

A teenage man and a woman in her 70s have died in following a collision in Mepal.
The collision, involving a Ford Fiesta van and a Vauxhall Meriva, happened at about 5.05pm on the A142 Iretons Way yesterday evening (February 27).
The driver of the van, a man in his teens, sadly died at the scene. His passenger, a teenage girl, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge via air ambulance.
The driver of the Vauxhall, a man in his 70s, suffered serious injuries and was also taken to Addenbrooke’s. The passenger, a woman in her 70s, was taken to Addenbrooke’s but sadly died.
The road was closed for several hours after the incident.
A Magpas spokesman said: “Magpas Doctor VJ Sankar and Paramedic Alex Pearce flew to the A142, south of Chatteris, via the Magpas Air Ambulance. They had been called after an extremely serious road traffic incident involving two cars and multiple casualties.
“The Magpas enhanced medical team placed a woman into an induced coma at the scene (providing her with A&E level care), before accompanying her to Addenbrooke’s Hospital by land ambulance. Upon arrival at the hospital, the patient was in a serious but stable condition.
“The Magpas helicopter crew who flew the medical team were Pilot Steve Wood and crew member Lee Kennedy.
“A team from East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA), EEAST Ambulance Service paramedic crews, Cambridgeshire Police and Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service crews were also in attendance.”
A police spokesman said: “Anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the collision is asked to call the Road Policing Unit on 101.”
