The family of a popular builder who died after his motorcycle was in collision with a car on the A149 near King’s Lynn on Saturday have paid tribute to his “lasting legacy”.
In a statement issued via Norfolk police, Mr Thompson’s family said: “Matthew was a popular and very well known builder and his family are extremely proud of him.
“He achieved so much in his short life and everybody seemed to know him. He couldn’t go anywhere without being acknowledged and always had a cheeky grin and smiley eyes for everyone he met. “He met and married his lovely wife and went on to have two gorgeous children whom he idolised.
“He has left a lasting legacy in and around the Norfolk area where there are numerous building jobs he took so much pride in carrying out. His reputation spread so far and wide that it extended to the South of France purely on recommendation.
“He built the cupola which sits in pride of place on Downham Market Town Hall roof. This was listed as one of his major building accomplishments as it was a totally new area for him and he carried it out to his perfecting standards gaining much praise from many people.
“He leaves behind a totally devastated, close knit family who are desperately trying to come to terms with their immense loss.”
The statement said arrangements for Mr Thomspon’s funeral would be announced shortly.
“We would be very pleased to welcome all his friends, business associates, customers and anyone else who loves him like we do,” his family said.
Police in Norwich have launched an investigation after a woman claimed in a tweet she had knocked a cyclist off their bike.
