Tributes have been paid to a kind, funny and popular Loddon man who was killed two days before his 40th birthday after his car flipped onto its roof on the A146 near Thurton.

About 200 people attended the funeral of Karl Plant at Holy Trinity Church in Loddon on Tuesday, where he arrived in a pink coffin transported by a horse and cart. Mr Plant, who had lived in Loddon for the past 15 years with his partner Tony Greening, was driving a grey Citroen C1 when he was involved in the three-vehicle collision. It happened about half a mile north of Thurton on June 25.

His mum, Eileen Plant, said: “He was so flamboyant, he left a mark everywhere he went. Everyone knew Karl because he was such a massive character.

“There was such a big turnout for his funeral and everyone wore pink because it was his favourite colour. He will be missed by hundreds of people. It is such a tragedy.”

Mr Plant was raised in Blofield and has four brothers and a sister. He also has a step-son Chris.

A Facebook page in his memory received over 350 tributes, and two days after the incident – on Mr Plant’s 40th birthday – his family let off 40 pink balloons at the scene of the collision.

A summer tea party was held at the Jubilee Club in Loddon after his funeral, with donations to the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

His sister Lisa said: “He was an amazing brother and uncle and he was very generous. He brought a ray of sunshine everywhere he went. He absolutely adored children and loved his nieces and nephews.”

Mr Plant’s family are keen to contact a woman called Caroline who left a two-page letter at the crash site.

She said she had stayed with Mr Plant throughout the incident and held his hand. Mr Plant’s family would love to meet her in person to thank her.

His sister Lisa can be contacted on 07563 763102.
