Long queues are expected on the A47 and organisers have asked people who live near the area to walk, cycle or use public transport, rather than drive.

A traffic management plan will be in place over the weekend, which will see Marine Parade closed to vehicles, as well as a number of seafront side roads.

However, there are 600 premium spaces available, including Blue Badge bays, at North Drive, South Beach Parade and Euston Road.

Alternatively, motorists are being steered towards two large park and ride sites on the outskirts of town, which will be signposted on the approach to Great Yarmouth. Spaces will be priced at £10 to £18, depending on arrival and departure times.

Despite a number of trains being cancelled between Norwich and Great Yarmouth today, Greater Anglia are promising a boosted service for the air show.

Lengthened trains will be in operation, running half hourly throughout the day and three times and hour during peak times.

The lengthened trains will be comprised of three carriages rather than the usual two, plus two additional locomotives have been hired, each capable of carrying more than 500 people.

Even with the boosted service though, Greater Anglia is advising travellers to expect large queues and busy trains.

James Reeve, Greater Anglia's area customer service manager, said: 'We're advising that you buy your ticket in advance. It will save you time standing in a long queue at the ticket office or ticket machines, so you'll be on your way more promptly if you already have a ticket.'

First Buses will also be increasing the frequency of their X1 and X11 services from Norwich to Great Yarmouth.

During Saturday daytime, buses will run every 10 minutes, rather than the usual 15 minutes, and on Sunday the service will run every 15 minutes, rather than the usual 30 minutes.

Larger buses will also be used, and in the evening double deckers will be used instead of the usual single deckers.

Superintendent Roger Wiltshire, local policing commander in Great Yarmouth, has advised air show-goers to plan ahead.

He said: 'We're expecting the town to be extremely busy over both days, which will ultimately result in delays on the A47 along with other main routes into Yarmouth as well as Gorleston.

'My advice to people attending is to plan ahead; make sure you allow plenty of time for your journey and have suitable parking arrangements in place.'

Elsewhere in the county the British Superbike Championships are under way at Snetterton Circuit.

Traffic is not expected to be affected on Saturday, however, on Sunday queues may form on the A11 northbound, while southbound travel should not be affected.

Officers will also be in place on Sunday to direct travel on the two roundabouts by the circuit.
