A road in north Suffolk had to be closed this afternoon (Sunday) following a three-vehicle crash involving a potato lorry.

The A146 in Beccles had to be closed after the crash at about 1.30pm today, which happened close to the Morrisons store roundabout, and involved a potato truck, a tractor and a third vehicle.

No-one is believed to have been seriously injured in the collision, although Suffolk fire-fighters did free one of the drivers who was trapped.

A brigade spokesman said: “Crews from Halesworth and Lowestoft attended and found one person trapped.”

After fire-fighters removed the roof using hydraulic cutting gear, the driver was freed and taken to hospital at 2.30pm.

Police and ambulance were also in attendance, and a police spokesman said that potatoes spilled out across the road as a result of the incident, after the truck carrying them went into a ditch.

The road was closed while the scene was cleared.
