The mum of a brave little girl who had to have both legs amputated as she battled meningitis is hoping lots of people will get involved in a fundraising event this weekend for the Meningitis Trust.

Vicky Matthews, of Bacton Road, Mile Cross, described the trust as “a real blessing” for the way they have helped her family since her daughter Grace, now five, contracted meningitis.

Mrs Matthews and Grace’s former nursery teacher Jane Richmond have organised a Toddle Waddle fundraiser at the Bayer Crop Social Club, in Hellesdon Road, Norwich on Saturday and are hoping lots of people will take part. The sponsored walk at midday is for children aged five and under but friends and family can also join them. The trust’s mascot Monty the Duck will lead the way and Grace and her brother Thomas will be taking part.

Mr Matthews said: “The Toddle Waddle is to raise funds and awareness of the Meningitis Trust that helps families like ourselves affected by meningitis. They are such a huge help, a real blessing. They offered us counselling, they helped to fund Grace’s electric wheelchair, and they helped us meet several families who have been through the same thing. It is amazing how it can help to see how well other families’ children are doing after they have been affected by meningitis.”

On the day there will also be a family fun day - including face-painting, refreshments, cake and book sales and other activities - from 11am until 3pm. People can just turn up on the day for the Toddle Waddle. For more information or for sponsorship forms call Mrs Matthews on 07891 821210.
