With as much as 8cms of snow predicted for Norfolk this afternoon, here are some tips on how to survive the cold snap
Keeping warm:
Draw your curtains at dusk and keep your doors closed to block out draughts.
Have regular hot drinks and eat at least one hot meal a day if possible.
Wear several light layers of warm clothes, rather than one chunky layer.
Keep as active in your home as possible.
Keep your main living room at around 18-21°C (65-70°F), and the rest of the house at least 16°C (61°F).
Staying safe:
Icy pavements and roads can be very slippery. Take extra care if you go out and wear boots or shoes with good grip on the soles.
Put grit or cat litter on paths and driveways to lessen the risk of slipping.
Don’t drive unless necessary. Slow down on the roads, and take care around gritters. It can take 10 times longer to stop in icy conditions, so allow room. Use the highest gear possible and minimise braking.
Watch your health:
Check up on friends, relatives and neighbours who may be more vulnerable to cold weather.
Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in a garden pond today.

What a lot of weeds. I know a number of 60 to 80(+) year olds who will be waiting for a few days and nights of sub zero temperatures and then they will be out on the ice and skating, no matter how cold it is. They made Fenmen (and women) tough and I bet none of these wimpy Archant reporters could keep up with them !

Just how many reporters have the EDP dedicated to writing stories about winter. Have they flown them in from hotter climes especially to cover this mega event and these are their first hand accounts of a British winter. Give me strength.

Don't use trains, plane's or unheated schools, wait for the BBC to show us how they do it in Russia, then we put our hands in our pockets and plan for colder winters, not before. Spend you day in the library, its heated with your money. You would have got some snow chains after the last traffic chaos you caused in Norwich, use them, but only when it really snows and the snow keeps on the road. Do not use salt based grit, it pollutes water causes, sand or gritty ash will do the same job. Feed and water birds. Go to the supermarket, window shopping, you do not have to buy anything, its always warmer were there are many bodies and fridges which chuck out lots of heat to keep food cold.
