Mark Maccoll, of Firman Court, had 16 cannabis plants growing under lighting and heating equipment in his bedroom, Norwich Crown Court heard yesterday. Robert Warner, prosecuting, said the street value of the crop would have been up to £6,400.

Maccoll, 43, initially told officers the drugs were for himself before admitting to selling them too. Texts relating to drug deals were found on his phone.

Maccoll admitted the production and supply of cannabis, and to possessing 2.4g of amphetamines on his person and 1.85g in his car.

Jude Durr, mitigating, said Maccoll had been in a “spiral of depression” at the time as a long-term relationship had ended and his son had been diagnosed with Motor Neurone’s disease.

Judge Anthony Bate said: “When police came to your premises they found a small scale but nevertheless well set up hydroponic set-up.

“Your plans were to save some money and smoke some of it yourself but the texts on your phone showed you had been involved in the supply of cannabis for some three months.”

He added the court must send a clear message to dealers as he sentenced Maccoll to 10 months in prison and ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs and equipment used for growing the cannabis.
