Three of the peregrine falcon chicks at Norwich Cathedral have now hatched.

A third peregrine falcon chick has hatched on the spire of Norwich Cathedral today.

The progress of the young falcon family living on a nesting platform on the city landmark is being watched by many nature enthusiasts via webcam.

The third chick hatched at about 2.30pm today and could be seen when the male brought some food in and the female fed the chicks.

Leanne Thomas, education manager for the Hawk and Owl Trust which installed the nesting platform, said “This is fantastic news. We had almost given up hope that the last two eggs would hatch but we now have a third chick.

“The male is bringing in plenty of food so the chicks are all well fed and looking healthy so far.”

Of the four eggs laid by the female in March, only one is yet to hatch.

The first chick hatched at about 7.30am on Wednesday and the second chick hatched about 12 hours later.

It is expected it will be five to six weeks until the chicks begin to fly.

The Hawk and Owl Trust is running a watch point at the cathedral where people can view the birds through telescopes. This will run each day in May when the weather is fine from 10am until 5pm.
