Police are hunting for a gang who tried to steal a rhino’s head from Norwich’s Castle Museum.
Officers received a report of the attempted theft at the city landmark yesterday (Monday) at about 1pm.
It is believed the group of four people paid to enter the premises at about 12.25pm and then left the scene empty handed about 40 minutes later, after being disturbed by a curator who grabbed from them the head of a rhino.
The four were all described as wearing dark coloured clothing and are thought to have left the scene in a dark coloured hatchback vehicle parked outside the castle. The vehicle was being driven by a fifth person.
Enquires are ongoing and crime scene investigators are searching for forensic clues.
Officers are also studying CCTV footage at the museum and of the surrounding roads to identify the suspects.
Anyone who witnesses the incident and should contact DC Carly Jermy at Norwich CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
Supporters of Scottish champions Celtic are in Norwich ahead of the Adam Drury testimonial game tonight.

@magicbone- please read my comments before making assumptions, I never said the rhino head wasn't in a glass case merely suggesting that something of that value should've been in a more secure place and the fact that if there was cctv then there should be clear images of the men as it states their heads weren't covered, Sorry for not making myself clearer!

@Queenie The rhino head WAS in a glass case. Clearly they were able to break or lift the glass somehow. And you will note that in the article it says "Officers are also studying CCTV footage at the museum and of the surrounding roads to identify the suspects." So there obviously was CCTV of them paying to enter the museum. Before you start claiming the museum is "asking for it" perhaps you should check the facts.

It suprises me that something so valuable could be picked up in the first place, the last reported theft of a rhino horns were taken from a glass cabinet, these men walked in and paid admission so couldn't of had their faces covered if there are no cctv images of them then I'm afraid the museum is asking for things to be taken.

This just smacks of laziness and cowardice. Generally people who want a rhino head have to literally risk their lives in order to poach one of the poor creatures. In all seriousness, what a ridiculous caper and well done to the curator for halting the theft.
