A historic hotel which recently changed hands is already showing its generous side after raising more than £200 for cancer awareness.
The Thomas Paine Hotel, in White Hart Street, Thetford, held its official opening in July after being taken over by Gez Chetal in May.
Mr Chetal put a fund-raising twist on the opening, encouraging people to donate with a raffle.
Mr Chetal presented the money to Breckland councillor, Mark Robinson, who is raising funds for Cancer Research UK with the Race at Your Place event in September.
Mr Chetal said: “I have a lot of customers, family and friends who have been affected by cancer and Mark has family going through it too.
“It’s an important cause and one we are only too happy to help out.”
Mr Robinson said: “It was a great effort from Gez and all the team at the hotel and we are so grateful for their support.
“It’s great to see a local business getting behind what we are trying to do.”
Mr Chetal added that the hotel plans to continue its fund-raising throughout the year.
Its next event will be what Mr Chetal called “ a pub quiz with a difference”.
It’s Your Round will feature singing with music and acting as well as traditional questions.
The event will cost £1 per person, which goes to Cancer Awareness, with a limited food menu available at £5 a main course. It starts at 7pm for 7.30pm.
To book, call the hotel on 01842 750372 or visit www.thethomaspainehotel.co.uk for more information.
The Race at Your Place event takes place on Sunday from 9am.
More than 100 runners are expected to take part at Abbey Meadows.
