He’s big, he’s bright, he’s furry Dinomite!

The friendly Comic Relief mascot – also known as the nose with toes – was in Norwich yesterday to sniff out the city’s sights as part of his grand UK tour.

His visit was to build excitement ahead of Red Nose Day on March 15, which is being backed by the Norwich Evening News through the Red Nose Day Community Cash campaign.

In partnership with Comic Relief and the Norfolk Community Foundation, we are giving away £50,000 in grants of between £500 and £1,000 to community groups, charities and organisations working in Norwich.

Sports clubs, children’s groups, churches or theatre companies are all eligible to apply for cash.

As well as spending time at the Castle, Dinomite also paid a visit to traders at Norwich market, posed with passengers at the train station and even made a trip to the Cathedral.

Cousins Jake Horth, six, and Tyler Madders, eight, had their picture taken with Dinomite as they waited to visit the castle dungeons.

Tyler, a pupil at Mile Cross Primary School, said he was excited to meet Dino, adding: “I’m not sure what we’re doing for Red Nose Day this year - usually we have to wear something red to raise money.”

Brothers Joel and Bruno McLees, aged 12 and nine, from Hertford, were visiting their grandmother in North Repps and visiting the castle for a day out.

Joel said: “I’ve never seen such a big red nose. We normally do activities at school for Red Nose Day. In the past we’ve made cupcakes for a cake sale at school.”

Dinomite – one of the three Comic Relief noses this year, along with T-Spex and Triceytops – visited Norwich on the final leg of a national tour, which has also taken in the Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland, the Humber bridge and the stunning views from the peaks of Snowdonia.

The pictures will all be featured on the Comic Relief Facebook page, and Dinomite’s adventures turned into a short video.
