The EDP Wedding Show: transform your wedding venue into something magical
PUBLISHED: 11:49 17 September 2012
The Eastern Daily Press Wedding Show comes to Dunston Hall this Sunday for its 12th event, covering all aspects for brides-to-be to plan their big day.
Into its sixth year at the hotel, there will be 98 exhibitors attending the one-day-event - the most ever seen at the hotel just south of Norwich off the A140 Ipswich Road.
Every day this week we will be profiling a selection of exhibitors at the show - and today we begin with Sue Pilgrim, director of Decorate My Venue.
Mrs Pilgrim, 60, from Hemblington near Blofield, has a mission: to transform wedding venues into something spectacular.
An interior design graduate from Great Yarmouth College, Mrs Pilgrim, 60, is trained as a toastmaster, a civil celebrant, as well as managing her own company, Best-Events Ltd.
The stepmum-of-two left her job in a large drinks company in 2010 and through word-of-mouth, her eye for great design and strong organisational skills she found herself immersed in weddings.
She said: “It’s nothing more than getting an understanding of the client, gathering as much information as possible about what they want.
“It really is a process of talking with my clients and asking them lots of questions.
“I have up to 10 meetings with them, and we always start with colours.”
One of Mrs Pilgrim’s most iconic venue decorations was an aircraft hanger in Felthorpe.
With just eight weeks to transform the space, Mrs Pilgrim managed to keep the exposed ceiling of the hanger and used and golden and purple colours to give the space a bistro feel.
And she doesn’t just transform venues, but also designs table settings too - working with all budgets.
At Dunston Hall on Sunday Mrs Pilgrim says she will display her place settings, showing what colours and themes she can develop.
Decorate My Venue will be in the La Fontaine Suite at the show, which runs from 11am-4pm on Sunday September 23. Entry is free.
