The awards named 94 top achievers from across the UK and The White Horse at Brancaster Staithe - famous for its spectacular scenery - scooped the accolade for Norfolk.

General manager, Rob Williamson, said it was amazing to be picked and praised the team’s dedication.

“It is down to all the hard work of the staff,” he said.

“The directors also give us creative freedom, products play a big part, and we get the community involved in what we do - it’s a real hub and has a nice community feel here.”

The pubs, which have been chosen on overall best practice across a number of operational categories, will be officially crowned at a red carpet celebration in London on Wednesday, May 23.

At the grand final, 15 Regional Winners will also be announced, as well as the esteemed accolade – the overall National Pub & Bar of the Year.

The White Horse is no stranger to these awards.

In 2016 it was crowned Best Pub & Bar in the East of England, only just missing out on the top spot.

Mr Williamson said: “We try and push the boundary and do new things. We try to add a personal touch.

“I would be absolutely over the moon if we won these awards.”

Tristan O’Hana, editor of Pub & Bar magazine, which runs the awards said: “This positive, industry-boosting news comes at a time when closures of pubs and bars are too often focused on in the press.

“The sole purpose of the National Pub & Bar Awards is to tell as many people as possible about the incredible businesses that these county winners are running.

“With 94 triumphant pubs on the winners list, chances are that every person in the UK will have an award-winning pub near them. Get out there and see these places for yourselves.”

Anglian Country Inns, the company behind The White Horse, have recently added a new pub to its portfolio with the acquisition of The Lytton Arms, a real ale pub situated in Knebworth, Hertfordshire.
