The secret of a long married life must be a shared love of painting.

June and Alwyn Crawshaw have been married for 60 years and they are marking the event by holding a major art exhibition.

The Mundesley couple have been painting together for most of their married life and regularly go out to sketch together in the north Norfolk countryside.

During their 60 years of marriage they have made a total of eight television series on 'How to paint' for the BBC and Channel 4, which have been broadcast worldwide. They have also produced 28 books about painting and illustrating for Harper Collins Publishing and have held major exhibitions all over the world, including Harrods, London and Tokyo.

More than 100 of their artworks are on show at the Picturecraft gallery in Bull Street, Holt from Friday, August 18 to Wednesday, August 23.

Mrs Crawshaw, 81, said: 'Not many married couples celebrate their diamond wedding anniversaries by holding a joint art exhibition.

'We have done TV shows around the world together as man and wife and produced books. He's the master and I do as he says,' she joked.

'Alwyn loves the Broads. We have lived here for 23 years, but we used to go to the Broads for about 20 years before that. Alwyn loves Norfolk, the sky and the big open spaces.'

Mr Crawshaw, 82, said: 'We have our own studios but we always ask each other's opinion of our work.'

The exhibition includes oil and watercolour paintings, and sketches and drawings, old and new.

Eight years ago, the couple held a major exhibition at Picturecraft titled The Last Gasp.

Gallery owner Adrian Hill said: 'Although a tremendous success, they got the title wrong. And now, they are at it again, to celebrate their diamond wedding celebrations.

'It's lovely to welcome June and Alwyn back with their lovely variety of work, as always - focusing on Alwyn's traditional approach and June's more experimental pieces.'

The couple have three children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
