Losing her mother in a bus crash 10 years ago was devastating enough, especially at what was supposed to be one of the happiest moments of her life as she gave birth to her son.

But at the same time as dealing with their grief, the family of Victoria Panton Bacon had to deal with the reality of helping Pollyanna Hope - whose leg was amputated due to the same crash - adapt to a new life.

The resolve the whole family showed to get through that incredibly difficult period is remarkable - but it doesn't stop there.

Ms Panton Bacon, with her sister Sarah Hope - who was also injured in that terrible crash 10 years ago - have tried to turn that tragic day into a positive, if you can ever do such a thing.

What they have achieved by setting up Elizabeth's Legacy of Hope is quite incredible, as they have given amputee children in some of the world's poorest countries an opportunity to walk which they thought they might never get.

Amputee children deserve just the same chances as others yet for so many, the inability to walk impacts on their whole lives if they cannot get to school or work.

Victoria Panton Bacon is not only helping people to walk but step into new life opportunites.

She should be supported for everything she is doing. However she and her family should also be congratulated for, out of the greatest sadness, using their experience to help others in need.
