A teenage driver has died and another young man is in hospital with a broken neck after a crash on the A47 on the outskirts of Norwich.

The crash happened at 10.25pm last night and involved a grey Honda Civic that crashed into the central reservation on the road at Witton, near Brundall.

The driver, a 19-year-old man, died at the scene.

Norfolk police said a passenger in the car, which was travelling on the westbound carriageway, suffered a broken neck. He was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for treatment.

The road was closed in both directions while emergency services attended to carry out initial investigations and to clear debris from both sides of the carriageway. It finally re-opened at about 4am today.

Officers are keen to hear from any witnesses who may have seen the crash. Any witnesses should contact Wymondham Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101.
