Taverham Prep School get into Yoga

Year 3 and 4 pupils at Taverham Hall Preparatory School have been getting relaxed on Tuesday afternoons as they bend and stretch in their junior yoga sessions.

The after-school class is run by year three teacher Clare Hume, who says the children have discovered that anyone can enjoy yoga and it can be a very rewarding form of exercise.

The group get a chance to roar like a lion, or act like a fly, a bird or even hop like a frog.

Organisers of the group at the school said the children enjoy learning new poses each week and seeing the progress they have made.

Ebony Turner, in year four at the school, said: “I like closing my eyes in the lesson and then I can think really clearly and think lovely thoughts.”

And Carys Green, also in year four, said: “I like yoga because it’s really relaxing and it always makes me feel much better afterwards.”

Year three’s Charlotte Read said her favourite yoga poses are the lion and the cobra, and throughout the classes children support each other’s poses.
