Norwich restaurant wins national curry award

A restaurant on the outskirts of Norwich has been recognised in the annual English Curry Awards 2018.

Giyash Miah, originally from Bangladesh, was named General Manager of The Year for his work at Tamarind Fine Indian Dining restaurant on Blofield Heath.

The 42-year-old has worked in the catering industry for 25 years and at Tamarind for the five years it has been established.

Mr Miah said he was “humbled” to receive appreciation and recognition for his role in the restaurant’s success and said his background as a chef helps his career as a manager tremendously.

“I’ve been cooking all my life,” he said, “so I really know which combinations work and I can always advise on which foods go together.”

The award was conferred on Mr Miah at a black tie event in Dudley which took place on September 17.

It adds to a number of other awards earned by the restaurant in recent years, including Best Restaurant in the EDP’s Norfolk Food and Drink Awards 2017 and before that the Broadland Community at Heart Business Supporter of The Year in 2015.

The award-winning manager continues: “My ethos is to keep it simple and to treat diners as you would guests in your own home.

“Of course the food needs to be good but you also need to be hospitable, you have to offer the whole package.”

Mr Miah said he would like to thank the restaurant’s “amazing” chef Afruz Ali for the restaurant’s popularity, and also his customers for their patronage and support.
