Labour’s Jane Basham, Conservative Tim Passmore, UKIP Bill Mountford and independent David Cocks braved the rain to talk to members of the public about the forthcoming election.

All were delighted to get the opportunity to speak, as they agreed that there had not been enough publicity about the election nationally.

The four then took questions at the Stella Maris Hall, in Gordon Road, as they outlined their three priorities.

Ms Basham said she wanted to target unsocial behaviour, violence against women and girls and response times. Mr Passmore said he wanted to target anti-social behvaiour, drugs and business crime. Mr Moutford said he wanted to focus on crime prevention, anti-social behaviour and road safety. Mr Cocks said he was focusing on catching more criminals, reassuring victims that something was happening and increasing the morale of troops.

Suffolk will vote for their commissioner on Thursday, November 15. They will receive a salary of £70,000 and be charged with representing the interests of around 700,000 people.

This evening they will speak again at the Seagull Theatre, in Pakefield.

  • So, when Mr Cocks said he "was focusing on ....... increasing the morale of troops", is he referring to the military or is he using the expression figuratively and actually means police officers and maybe PCSOs? If he means the military, what has that got to do with the PCC? If he means police officers etc., why didn't he say so?
