A team of Cromer air cadets enjoyed a successful day in the Norfolk/Suffolk wing athletics championships in Ipswich, which is the biggest event in the calendar.

Spokesman Tony Wade said: 'With a team of nine cadets Cromer's expectations were not high, but by the end of the day nine medals and two trophies had been won.

'With five athletes in the under 17 category this was Cromer's strongest age group. Tom Muckley, who won gold in the 800 and 1500 metres, won the best overall male athlete award.

'In the 17-20 category team captain Toby Mournian won bronze in high jump and javelin. With the total scores added up the Cromer team won the male small squadrons team trophy.

'In the girls' events, in the under 15 category Penelope Othon won gold in the high jump, retaining her title from last year, and gold in javelin, a new event for her.'
