A nine-year-old girl is today in touching distance of reaching her fundraising goal of £6,000 for a new heart machine for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Emily Bubb, from Strumpshaw, has been raising money for the hospital since she underwent a life saving heart operation there in 2013.
Her fundraising ambitions started after she raised £160 as a thank-you to the hospital by selling loom bands and by 2014 she had raised £1500 by selling gifts at craft fairs.
Her mum, Claire Bulman said it was the story of Norwich woman Leigh Smith that inspired Emily to start raising money for the ECG machine.
'She was really taken by Leigh's story and decided she wanted to donate the £1500 she had already raised to Leigh's campaign,' she said. 'Emily saw that Leigh was looking to raise £43,000 for a heart and lung bypass machine and thought well why can't I raise money for something like that.'
The Cantley Primary School pupil has held a host of events to raise the money for the ECG machine including a family fun day and a school fete but she said her one of her favourite events was at a music festival.
'One of the best events was the VW Whitenoise Festival where we had a stall selling craft gifts and I also really enjoyed the Christmas craft fair we did which had a Santa's Grotto and raised £800,' said Emily.
The nine-year-old, who has a hereditary heart condition, has also received support from a number of people including Sam and Ben Bethall who donated £1000 to her campaign and her Grandpa, Richard Bulman, who is running the Thames Meander Marathon in March to raise money.
Once Emily has reached this fundraising target she has no plans to stop her charity work and is already thinking of the next challenge.
'I have already called Great Ormond Street to see what other equipment they need and what else we can buy for them,' she said. 'And I am really grateful to everyone who has helped me and donated money to my campaign so far, I don't know how to say thank you.'
