The Stradsett Vintage Rally has been entertaining tractor and steam engine fans for 41 years but organisers have made the tough decision to pull the brakes on the event.

Announcing the news on social media, National Vintage Tractor and Engine Club (NVTEC), the organisers of the show, said: 'Due to the ever-increasing costs to run the rally the National Vintage Tractor and Engine Club East Anglia Group have made the tough decision to stop running this well-known and loved event.

'We would like to thank all those that have helped make this such an enjoyable event for both exhibitors and public over the past 41 years.'

The Facebook post has received almost 100 comments from people sharing their memories of the show from previous years.

Annie Bruce said: 'A wonderful show, and a wonderful community of people. This is an incredibly sad loss.'

Jason Armsby said: 'Very sad news. A lot of hard work has gone into this over the years and a lot of money has been raised for charity. A shame it has to end like this.'

The NVTEC was founded in 1967 and has united people through their common interest in the preservation and modification of vintage vehicles.

For almost five decades its ranks include enthusiasts from all four corners of the globe boasting a membership of more than 5,500 people.

The rally traditionally took place every year during the early May bank holiday weekend making it the perfect day out for families.

Previous events have seen thousands flock to Stradsett Park, near Downham Market, for the variety of exhibitions on show during the two-day rally.

These included heavy horse demonstrations, working Spaniel parades and large displays of various machines including vintage tractors, motorcycles, classic cars, commercial vehicles, sprayers and spreaders.

Some of the proceeds from the rallies have been donated to numerous local charities, including the East Anglia Air Ambulance, BREAK charity and The Norfolk Hospice Tapping House.

A spokesman from the Stradsett Estate said: 'The Stradsett Estate is delighted to have hosted the Stradsett Park Vintage Rally over the past 41 years, proudly supporting it from its origins as a local club gathering, to the impressive national event that it has become today – now attracting as many as 20,000 visitors and offering not only vintage tractors and engines but an array of rides, stalls and helicopter tours of the estate.

'Stradsett keenly nurtured this growth for many decades by donating use of the Park and year-round estate facilities entirely free of charge, with all costs duly absorbed by the estate.

'Rally organisers began to make a nominal contribution towards the venue in recent years in recognition of the ever-increasing size and success of the Rally and the associated costs of hosting it year-on-year.'
