Mick Barnes, 51, said he arrived at Lodge Farm last Saturday morning to find the shed doors wide open and the dogs, including a pregnant terrier, gone.

Mr Barnes breeds dogs on a site at the end of a row of houses off Dereham Road, near the Lodge Farm housing development

The farm backs onto fields and is usually locked up.

But thieves broke into the site on Friday night.

The breeder’s older dogs had been left, leading to fears his farm was targeted by people who knew what animals he was breeding there.

Mr Barnes said thieves had broken into the site before and stolen a Shar Pei dog.

“They came through the fields and then over the fence,” he said.

“They then carried the dogs off.

“It had a secure lock and chain but they kicked the wall in.”

Four dogs were taken from one of the farm’s outbuildings between 1pm on Friday, January 4 and 10.30am on Saturday, January 5.

They got into the brick outbuilding by forcing a padlock open and kicking a wall down to gain access to dog runs.

Wire mesh was cut and the four dogs were then stolen from inside.

The dogs taken were a black male Laparatsu, described as having a white chest, three white feet and one black foot; a tan coloured male Norwich Terrier; a Terrier cross female, with pups, described as having two black ears and a black right eye; and one pure black female Shar Pei.

Mr Barnes puts the total value of the dogs at £4,600.

Anyone with information should contact PC Tim Peel at Wymondham Police Station on 101 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
