The black Ferrari 430, worth £170,000 and built to race in the GT3 series, was inside a black PRG ProSporter trailer when it was taken from the car park at Park Farm Hotel in Norwich Road, on the evening of Thursday, November 8.

The trailer was towed away by a nearly new, long wheel base white Mercedes Sprinter van.

It was found unopened on farmland off Pymars Lane in Hempnall yesterday morning. The Ferrari was undamaged inside.

The car, owned by GT Championship driver Phil Burton from Cheshire, could not be converted into a road car and had been parked at the Park Farm Hotel where Mr Burton was staying while visiting Snetterton for a test day.

Mr Burton, managing director of a CCTV manufacturer, awoke on Thursday to find the Ferrari and trailer missing from the car park. Police believed the car had been stolen to order because it was “niche” vehicle.

PC Matt Coppard, who is investigating the theft, said: “With such extensive coverage of the theft in the local media and online, I believe that whoever took the trailer and car felt they had to dispose of them as it was so widely known that they had been stolen.

“The owner is delighted that the Ferrari has been recovered, as am I, and I would like to thank the media and everyone else who spread the word.

“While the trailer and car are being returned to the owner, I would still like to hear from anyone with information about the theft. There remains a four-day period when the car and trailer were missing, and someone must have information about where they were being kept and the van that towed them away.”

Contact PC Coppard at Wymondham police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
