If you have ever wanted to immerse yourself in a medieval setting then a visit to Castle Acre Priory this weekend would be a good place to start.
The English Heritage site is hosting a Medieval Life and Laughter event for visitors to journey back in time.
Taking place on Saturday and Sunday there will be a host of fun activities taking place for visitors to enjoy.
From discovering the lives of the prosperous and the poor to meeting a monk, craftsmen, cooks and comedians in the living history encampments they will learn what life was like in the fifteenth century.
Demonstrations will also take place throughout the day – visitors can meet the soldiers of the 15th century and join in with their drill display, or find out more about the firepower of the era in the afternoon firepower show.
Visitors will also be able to explore the ruins of Castle Acre Priory, visit the stonework display in the Prior's Lodgings which features artefacts and pieces of architecture found directly on site, or take part in the site's family trail, where they can explore not only the Priory but neighbouring Bailey Gate and Castle.
Rebecca Hornby, assistant events manager, said: 'There will be different things to see and do across the weekend and it promises to be a great day out for families.'
Castle Acre Priory is one of the largest and best preserved monastic sites in the country dating back to 1090 and was the home of the Cluniac order of monks.
It was founded by the Warenne family soon after the Norman Conquest and became a refuge for pilgrims, and a stopping point for royalty, clergy and nobility.
Visitors can also explore areas such as the cloister, monks living quarters and impressive 24-seat reredorter which is thought to be one of the best preserved medieval toilets in the country.
English Heritage is the custodian of over 400 historic monuments, buildings and sites through which it brings the story of England to life for over 10 million visitors each year.
The Medieval Life and Laughter event will run from 11am-5pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
