About 260 youngsters from 23 different Brownie packs took part in the series of workshops at Ormiston Victory Academy, in Costessey, on Saturday.

All of the children were working towards their Stargazer badge.

Amanda Bradford, senior science technician at the academy and science advisor for Girlguiding Norfolk, organised the event, and she said the theme of stars was also being incorporated into the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the Brownies this year.

She said: “The Brownies all took part in four different activities, one was learning about phases of the moon, and another was looking at constellations. They also played a game to learn about the planets and spent time looking through telescopes.

“They all seemed to really enjoy themselves.”

Among the Brownies to take part were Grace Bragger and Rose Coombs, both nine and from 2nd Drayton Brownies.

Grace said: “It was nice learning about all the planets and learning about all the stars up there in the sky. It was really fun.”

Abigail Humphreys, seven, from 1st Norwich Brownies, said: “I liked looking through the telescope because, when you look through it, you see a new world in space with all the stars.”

Skye Betts, nine, from 3rd Old Catton Brownies said: “I liked learning about what all the planets are like.”
