The actor, pictured above, appearing as Brutus in Julius Caesar at Norwich Theatre Royal until Saturday, dropped by to officially launch the shop at the Assembly House yesterday.

Paterson said: “It gives me great pleasure to open this Christmas Card Shop. It is such a great idea to be able to support so many excellent charities under the same roof and I wish you all lots of luck with it.”

The shop will be open Mondays to Saturdays from 9.30am until 5pm until December 15, and is fundraising for about 30 good causes.

Project chairman Pam Scutter said: “We are hoping to beat last year’s fundraising total of £44,000. We also aim to pass every penny we raise straight to local charities.”
