The extent to which the community has shown the spirit of Christmas has overwhelmed the Salvation Army organisers of a festive lunch in Lowestoft.
Salvation Army lieutenant Angela Wilson said: “It would cost a lot to put on if we had to buy everything, but individuals and companies have been donating turkeys, mince pies and vegetables as well as giving us cheques and money.
“People have literally been knocking on the door and pressing cheques and money into my hand.”
Nearly 100 people took advantage of the event at the Citadel, in Battery Green Road, including many elderly and homeless people.
A service was followed by the meal and entertainment; everyone was given a goody bag to take away.
About 30 volunteers were involved in the organisation, some preparing the vegetable.
Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in a garden pond today.
