The parish church of Lowestoft has unveiled a garden of remembrance area in memory of those from the town who died during the First World War.

And next month a special service will be held at St Margaret's Church in Lowestoft to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

With St Margaret's Church being home to the town's war memorial for those who lost their lives during the conflict, more than 720 names appear on the memorial – and each person who features has been researched and their history gathered together.

And now with 2018 being the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, this project will be handed over to the church by its author, Arthur Sparkes, at a special service for Remembrance Sunday on November 11 at 6pm.

A spokesman for the the church, in Hollingsworth Road, Lowestoft, said: 'As we remember all those who gave their lives for our country at this special service we shall be particularly thinking of those who did so from Lowestoft, and everybody is invited to join in this service.'

Ahead of this, the church has set aside an area in the garden of remembrance where crosses with poppies on – available from the Royal British Legion – may be placed in memory of those who lost their lives in the conflict.

The crosses with poppies on may be left there from now onwards.
