Three members of the Southwold Lifeboat crew visited St Felix School in Reydon to explain more about their work – and give youngsters the chance to try on some of their kit.
The crew members joined parents and children from nursery, prep and pre-prep departments and were entertained by year three pupils, who performed a special chapel assembly about the RNLI.
The children explained all about the history of the lifeboat station at Southwold and that the RNLI would be launching a new lifeboat later in the year. The crewmen then took part in a question and answer session.
After a refreshing cup of tea, they then visited the nursery children who took great delight in hearing their stories and trying on some of the equipment – including their helmets and lifejackets.
Children from the pre-prep and prep departments came to school for the day in their casual clothes with the theme of being 'smart or silver', and they each paid a £1 for the privilege.
There was also a cake sale, and so far the day has raised £217, which will be donated to the RNLI.
A St Felix School spokesman said: 'A big thank you to the year three pupils for their assembly, to Mrs Heal for organising the day's activities and also to Jules Heal, David Webster and Keith Meldrum, for sparing the time to go along and inspire the children about the work that they and the RNLI do.'
