A motion proposed by South Norfolk Council leader John Fuller and Liberal Democrat leader Murray Gray received cross-party support at a full council meeting on Wednesday night.

The Say Yes campaign, run jointly by Norfolk County Council and the EDP, has so far attracted more than 9,000 signatures to encourage further investment in the county’s online infrastructure.

Mr Fuller praised the efforts of the EDP in bringing a number of agencies together for the broadband campaign. “This is a team effort and that is the essence of Say Yes whether it is a private individual or public partner,” he said.

Dr Gray added: “It is so important to us as councillors and the whole community to get decent broadband. In the Waveney Valley it is ok in the day, but in the evening you can forget it and it is just not acceptable in the 21st century.”

The Better Broadband for Norfolk project hopes to bring superfast 30Mbps download speeds to as much of the county as possible by 2015. The Say Yes campaign aims to prove the commercial demand which will tempt private investment in the scheme. Visit www.norfolk.gov.uk/sayyesnorfolk, or call 0344 800 8023.
