A north Norfolk man is preparing to take part in a fundraising walk to show his gratitude for the hospital where he underwent lifesaving heart surgery.
Dallas Lucas, from Smallburgh, had an aortic valve replacement at Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, after he collapsed in the street in 2009 with pain in his chest.
The art tutor, who enjoys walking several miles every day, is grateful that he is able to continue being active after his surgery, and is now getting ready to take part in his fourth World Heart Day walk in aid of the hospital’s charity.
The 62-year-old will be walking the longest six mile route on September 29 and is encouraging others to sign up.
He said: “Thank you to everyone who helped me during my time at Papworth. Taking part in World Heart Day is my way of repaying them for what they have done for me.
“World Heart Day is a great way for me to say thank you and for others too. Anything that raises money for the hospital is worthwhile and it does just that.”
