An 18-year-old student was found with a small amount of cannabis, which led to police searching her home and finding her father was acting as a custodian to a cannabis haul with a street value of £27,000.
Jessica Smith was found with about £40 worth of cannabis, which she supplied to a small group of her friends, but Kevin Eastwick, prosecuting at Norwich Crown Court, said that when police searched her address at Horsford Street in Norwich they found a small quantity of cannabis in the house but a large amount stored in a garden shed and more drugs and cash in a holdall in a car parked outside.
Mr Eastwick said that in total the cash recovered was £2,745.
He said that the daughter was supplying cannabis in a separate operation, but her father, Lee Smith, 44, was involved in acting as a custodian for a large amount of cannabis, totalling £27,000.
His wife Melanie Smith, 44, admitted allowing her premises to be used for drugs, although the court heard she had no idea about the large amount of drugs which were found in the shed.
Lee Smith was given an eight-month sentence suspended for two years and ordered to do 300 hours’ unpaid work after admitting possession of cannabis with intent to supply.
Melanie Smith was ordered to do a 12-month community order with 40 hours’ unpaid work and Jessica Smith, who admitted possession of cannabis with intent to supply, was made subject to a two-year community order with two years’ supervision.
Guy Ayers, for Lee Smith, said he was a man of previous good character who had to give up his job as a care worker because of this case.
Mr Ayers said Melanie Smith knew her husband smoked cannabis but had no idea about the large amount of cannabis.
John Morgans, for Jessica Smith, said she only supplied a small amount of cannabis to pre-existing users of her own age.
