Hundreds of workers were evacuated from an Aviva building in the centre of Norwich at lunchtime.

Fire crews were called to the insurance company’s office in Surrey Street at about 1.30pm today.

A spokesman for Aviva said: “We had a small electrical fire in a switch room which resulted in all staff being evacuated from the building.

“The fire brigade attended and now having dealt with this staff are returning to work.

“The incident has resulted in a small power outage in a section of the building and to comply with health and safety those staff will be going home for the day.”

The remaining staff were allowed back into the building at around 3.30pm.
