Six F-15 fighter jets from RAF Lakenheath are to be sent to Eastern Europe to help police the Baltic region.

The move follows an announcement yesterday from Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel at the US Senate that the US would be beefing up its participation in NATO’s mission in the Baltics and will increase joint training in Poland.

The US currently provides four F-15s to fill NATO’s January to April policing rotation in the region.

The six extra aircraft will be deployed to Siauliai Air Base in Lithuania at the request of the US’ Baltic allies, according to a USAF spokesman.
