Businesses and organisations in Lowestoft are being urged to dig out their frying pans and don their running shoes as the countdown begins to Britain’s most easterly pancake race.
A number of teams have already been entered for next week’s annual event, which is being held on Shrove Tuesday outside the Beales department store in London Road North.
But the Lowestoft Town Centre Management Partnership, which is organising the races with support from The Journal and the Marina Theatre, is still keen to hear from other shops and groups that are keen to take part.
Prizes will be awarded to the winning team and runners-up after a series of heats to decide the finalists.
Town centre manager, Emma King, said: “The retailers in Lowestoft are delighted to be able to continue this special tradition and, as well as prizes for the winning teams, taking part is a great deal of fun.
“All those participating contribute to the great community spirit we have here in the town.
“Over the coming months we will be announcing a number of other exciting events taking place in the town centre.”
Last year’s race was won by a team from the Iceland store in the Britten Centre.
The first race is due to start at noon, with entry free but strictly by application form only.
