A shop manager who has been in the food retail business for nearly 50 years was given a special send-off for his retirement.

Sidney French, of Stalham Shopper, first started working in food retail in August 1964 at the former International Stores in Stalham where he undertook his initial training.

He took over as manager of Stalham Shopper in 1982 and has worked for the company for the past 30 years. He retires after 48 years working in the town’s High Street.

A special retirement event was held for Mr French on September 29 at the shop, where he was presented with a silver tankard from North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb.

He was also joined by customers and staff from the past and present.
