Sheringham set for Sunday markets during Christmas countdown

A “pre-Christmas buzz” is being promised in Sheringham after a festive free car parking initiative was followed by the introduction of Sunday markets in the run-up to the arrival of Father Christmas.
North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) is to extend the popular Sheringham Saturday market to cover Sundays over the four pre-Christmas weekends in December.
The new market will see stall-holders in business on Sheringham’s Station Approach car park from 9.30am–2.30pm (weather permitting) on December 2, 9, 16 and 23 as well as on Saturdays as usual.
It follows last week, when the News revealed NNDC’s initiative to offer three hours’ free parking in its car parks across the district on the same four Sundays - in a bid to boost business.
A council spokesman said the market move was “seen as a further fillip to local trade, encouraging people to shop in their excellent north Norfolk market towns and boosting business in the build-up to Christmas”.
NNDC cabinet member Rhodri Oliver said: “The council is determined to do all it can to support local business. By not only offering free parking on the four Sundays before Christmas to encourage local people to shop locally, but also supporting a special Sunday market on the same days, we anticipate that Sheringham will have a really exciting pre-Christmas buzz this year.”
