This is a follow up visit to one undertaken back in October 2010 when the church’s pastor Bryan Pickard and church member Ian Mutton teamed up with a charity called Mission His Way to teach at a church north of Kampala, and raise funds to provide essential repairs to their primitive school buildings.

More than £2,200 was raised, enabling floors to be laid, and the roof completed.

This Easter 10 people from the Sheringham church will travel out to Africa again to continue the work, alongside a team from a church in Sussex.

The principle task this time is to build toilets, improve the classroom, and provide further equipment for the school. They will be working with local builders and using local materials.

More than £1,000 has already been raised, and efforts are under way to raise more funds before the team departs at the beginning of April.

Nine year-old Matthew Mutton, the youngest member of the team, said: “We are going to Uganda to build toilets for the children as they have no proper toilets at their school. We also want to buy food parcels for the older people.

“I shall be doing a triathlon, which is a 15 mile bike ride, a one mile run, and a 250m swim to raise money to buy bricks and other materials.”

All money raised will go directly to the project, as the team are funding their own travelling costs. If anyone would like to sponsor Matthew, or just make a donation to the project, please contact treasurer@sheringhambaptistchurch.co.uk
