Sheringham's tourist information centre and North Norfolk Railway station will receive a £400,000 revamp after plans were given the green light.
Proposals to demolish the current tourist information centre and toilets on Station Approach for a new combined building with a railway shop on the same site were debated by the North Norfolk District Council development committee in Cromer today.
It is hoped work will begin in the winter of 2016 or 2017 and the development will create a larger buffet area at the station, space for an extra carriage on platform one, and a year-round tourist information centre for Sheringham.
North Norfolk Railway general manager Trevor Eady said more space in the buffet area was a key driver for the project.
He said: 'It means at busier times there will be more opportunities for people to sit inside rather than outside.'
The new building will match the existing station.
There were concerns about the original application from Sheringham Chamber of Trade and the Sheringham Enhance Group about the size of the toilets, but these were addressed.
