Now is your chance to join an “army of volunteers” at a community theatre.

That is the cry from the Sheringham Little Theatre on Station Road, which opened in 1973 and is supported by nearly 80 people from across north Norfolk in a variety of roles, but needs more help.

Most of the volunteers help serve at The Hub coffee shop and bar during the day and in the evenings.

Other jobs include ushering before, during and after performances and films, selling ice creams and even helping out backstage.

Theatre director Debbie Thompson said: “They do a whole range of things. They are genuinely the lifeblood of the theatre. They are the army behind it.

“The work the volunteers do is vital. It is hard work. They have a great team spirit.”

She added: “We are desperate to recruit more volunteers. It is a real service to the community and good fun as well.”

People who currently help mainly live within 20 miles of Sheringham and are a mixture of ages.

Julian High, 70, from Holt, who has been a volunteer for three years, said: “I love meeting people and have lots of laughs. It is a good crowd.”

Mr High, who grew up in north Norfolk, acted at the Sheringham Little Theatre 50 years ago.

Another volunteer Melanie Ogle-Rush, 64, also from Holt, said: “It is about chatting to people and it is about fun and interaction. The theatre is a great focal point and The Hub is a good meeting place. It has a great community feel.”

If you would like to volunteer pick up an application form from the box office, email or ring 01263 822347.
