A group of secret agents have been working undercover to ‘break’ out some of the city’s best loved friends ahead of the Lord Mayor’s Celebration weekend.
Undercover staff from the Norwich Evening News and Eastern Daily Press, with help from Martin Green from the charity Break, have clubbed together to ‘steal’ four of the GoGoGorillas.
Normally housed at Brandbank, based in Bowthorpe, IronApe, BatGril and Freddie Radio GoGo will appear on our float during the Lord Mayor’s Procession tomorrow.
And joining them will be the gorilla Feather the Fur, on loan from Starfish, based in Rackheath.
Mr Green, fundraising events manager, said: “It’s going to be a really nice opportunity for people to see the last few GoGoGorillas. They captured the city’s imagination and it’s an exciting opportunity for Archant to have four on their float to support Break.
“These events would not happen without companies involvement and it’s great they’ve branched out to help us and the Lord Mayor’s Celebration with loaning these gorillas.
“It’s a final farewell to GoGoGorillas and a hello to the upcoming dragons trail.”
The float will have a jungle theme and staff will be on hand to collect for charity and give out goodies to children.
David Powles, assistant editor (editor digital) of the Norwich Evening News and EDP, said: “We are delighted to have been able to bring back some of the gorillas so that people can enjoy seeing them one last time.
“They were one of the highlights of last summer so hopefully children and adults will look forward to saying hello and taking pictures of them again. We just want to thank Break for helping us to ‘break them out’ and we promise to return them in one piece!
“This is the first time for many years the Norwich Evening News and Eastern Daily Press has organised a float and we really can’t wait to be at the heart of the action.”
GoGoDragons have been named as the latest stars as Break and Wild in Art embark on organising a new trail for Norwich starting in June 2015. Sponsor packs and artist packs will be available soon but in the meantime artists and sponsors can register their interest by contacting Mr Green on 01603 670107 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
