On Saturday, March 24, Scouts raced hand-built soapbox carts at Ellough Park, near Beccles, Cubs sent pins flying in a ten pin bowling competition and Beavers got to meet exotic animals at Kessingland's Africa Alive.

The Scouts put their carts through their paces in an event which has been running for three years, with the competitors tasked with completing three shortened laps of the kart circuit alongside a driver change each lap.

Assistant district commissioner for Scouts, Mark Hansen, said: 'Each kart driver and their two pushers firstly had to complete a qualifying time-trial over two laps to decide their grid position for the race proper.'

All the teams completed the course and in a close finish the winners were 1st Blundeston, with 14th Lowestoft and 2nd Carlton Colville 'A' in second and third place respectively.

Later on in the day the district's cubs were treated to a day of bowling.

The packs battled it out for the honours in a good-natured competition held at Richardson's Family Bowl Centre.

Playing in teams, each Cub bowled in two games in a bid to claim top place in the contest, with their combined score counting towards the final result.

The overall winners were once again 1st Blundeston, scoring 1017 points, with 14th Lowestoft in second place only four points behind, and 1st Carlton Colville taking the last step on the podium with 1010 points.

The highest individual score was acheived by Thando from 1st Carlton Colville with 203 points.

Making the presentations of the winners, assistant district commissioner for Cubs, Jo-Anna Harley, praised all the players for supporting the competition and said that she was impressed with the bowling skills on show.

It wasn't just a day for the competitive, 115 of the district's beavers were treated to a trip to Africa Alive for the Beavers Day Out, tasked with taking as many pictures of their mascot with different animals as possible

Assistant district commissioner for Beavers, Gemma Eglington said, 'The youngsters got some strange looks from the animals as a range of fluffy mascots were held in front of them as the cameras clicked.'
