An 11-year-old school girl has done just 'grand' for an animal charity, smashing her £1,000 target.

Eleanor Smail planned to walk 11-miles from Winterton to Faith Animal Rescue's base in Hickling, but ended up doing 12.

Her mother Cheryl Smail said she was 'proud beyond words' of her animal-mad daughter - who arrived at the finish line and asked if she could walk one of the dogs.

Mrs Smail said: 'We are still collecting donations but currently she is at £450 so she completed her challenge of getting over £410 and has now all together raised over £1000 for Faith.

'After her epic walk she arrived running to the finish line and asked can I walk a dog.'

Eleanor who lives with her family in Bernard Road, Gorleston, is already working on her next project to provide a goodie bag for each animal at Christmas.

Eleanor volunteers at Faith most Sundays helping out with the animals and providing comfort for dogs who may never have known any.
