A Norwich road that closed due to a sinkhole could remain shut well into next week.
The top of Rouen Road next to Cattle Market Street was first cordoned off by police on Wednesday morning when a sinkhole caused by a burst water pipe suddenly opened up underneath a parking car.
Anglian Water have been working with the city council to fix the pipe and the hole, and a sign next to the works says that the estimated date of completion is Tuesday, March 20.
However, an Anglian Water spokesperson has said that works should finish by Monday at the latest, with hopes of completion by this Friday evening.
A Friday finish is particularly desirable as Norwich City will be playing Reading at home this Saturday at 3pm, an event which will likely mean thousands of extra visitors to the centre.
Rouen Road is just a ten minute walk to the stadium, and is frequently used for parking and travel in and out of the city centre.
